Recreational Play
Lorenzi Park located at 3399 W Washington has been reopened. It was completely redone and it looks great. Lorenzi Park is a terrific place for LVSSA to play softball.
Activities commence at 8:00 AM during the warmer months and 10:00 AM during the cooler months. There are two groups of players. One group is comprised of men aged 50-64 and the other is comprised of men 65 and over. There are exceptions. Highly skilled older players can play with the 50-64 group and those younger players who don't feel comfortable playing in the younger group, for whatever reason, can play in the older group. To help organize these groups, there our two Field Commissioners. Their names and contact information can be accessed by clicking the Officers and Directors tag in the menu to your left.
Our lady members usually do not participate in recreational softball. Check out question number #7 in the link FAQ below.
Various rules have been established for recreational play that are seldom seen in tournament play. Some were incorporated for safety reasons, such as the use of a pitching screen. Other rules are meant to encourage players with diminishing skills, for example, outfielders must play at least 150 feet from home plate against players ages 75 and older and cannot be thrown out at first base from the outfield.
Concerning safety, LVSSA purchased a defibrillator and continually enrolls players in classes concerning its use. The defibrillator is always available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Many men and women work during the week and are unable to participate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In order to accommodate them, an informal program takes place at Doc Romeo on Saturdays. Same times as indicated above. Additional information about this program, contact the 50-64 age group Field Commissioner. Click on the Officers and Directors tag in the menu to your left. If you have questions, some may be answered by the link below.
