F requently A sked Q uestions - Recreational Play
1. I see that your annual dues are only $60/year. How can you do it?
It's easy. We can do it because we have so many members!
2. What does a member get in return?
Tuesday and Thursday mornings usually year round, we prepare the fields for practice pick-up games. Monday mornings we just have batting practice. If that's not enough, on Saturday mornings, practice pickup games occur.
In addition, we purchase the softballs, the LVSSA Hall of Fame awards and send get-well cards to members and their spouses. LVSSA also sponsors a social once a year for the enjoyment of our members.
3. Where do you play?
Our home field is Lorenzi Park. It is located at 3399 W. Washington between Valley View and Rancho, just off US 95. When maintenance must be performed by the City of Las Vegas, we play on a different city field. Contact a Field Commissioner for field location.
4. Do I need to purchase my own glove, bat and shoes?
Yes! You never use anyone else's equipment without their permission.
5. What should I wear?
Just about anything you want, there is no dress requirement. It's best if you have a pair of sneakers or softball shoes with rubber cleats.
6. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, do you play on fixed teams or is it just a pick-up game?
The 50+ age groups have pick-up teams. The field commissioner assigns players to the teams and tries to balance them so they are of equal skill. On the 65+ field, there our fixed teams, but the field commissioner for this group assigns players to the teams and works with the managers to balance out the skill levels for each team.
7. Do women have teams that play on Tuesday and Thursday mornings?
No. There are not enough women to form teams. However, some women's teams do practice at a time when most of the players can attend. Women can play on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, but at their own risk.
8. Are players expected to conduct themselves in a good sportsmanship like manner?
Yes! Players conduct can be reported to the LVSSA Discipline Committee and based upon their findings, a player can be subject to their justice.
